  • cooks their food with 60% less wood, reducing deforestation
  • cuts cooking smoke in their windowless homes by 90%, reducing their family's respiratory disease
  • reduces women's wood collecting time from about 20 to 7 hours weekly
  • empowers teams of women who learn how to build and maintain the stoves and then teach others

The solar energy system

  • lights their windowless homes with solar energy instead of burning kerosene
  • provides daytime and night time lighting, strengthening motivation to keep children in school
  • provides cell phone charging in the home, avoiding fees and delays
  • charges radio batteries with solar energy, eliminating frequent and costly purchase of low quality batteries to stay up with the news
  • empowers teams of women and men who learn to install and maintain the solar systems and then teach others
